How to clean & maintain artificial grass.

Published 14 July 2026

Artificial grass is famously low-maintenance, but low-maintenance is not no-maintenance. Here is the simple routine that keeps it looking new in Singapore’s climate.

The good news for Singapore: our frequent rain does most of the cleaning for you, rinsing the pile several times a week. The rest is a light, occasional routine, minutes, not hours.

The weekly two-minute reset

Give the lawn a quick brush against the pile direction with a stiff, synthetic-bristle broom (never metal) to lift the fibres and clear leaves and light debris. A leaf blower does the same job in seconds on a larger area. That is genuinely all most lawns need most weeks.

Rinsing haze and dust

During hazy spells or after a dry stretch, fine dust settles on the pile and dulls the colour. A quick hose-down restores the fresh green instantly. In Singapore the monsoon usually beats you to it, but a rinse is handy before guests arrive.

Bird droppings, food and spills

Deal with these promptly: scrape off solids, then rinse with water. For sticky spills or a sugary drink, warm water with a little mild soap and a soft brush lifts it cleanly. Avoid harsh solvents and bleach, which can damage fibres.

Pet waste

Solids lift off easily; hose the spot afterwards. Urine drains straight through a properly built base, so odour is rarely an issue, an occasional rinse, or a 50:50 water-and-white-vinegar spritz on a warm day, keeps it completely fresh. Our pet installs use a free-draining base exactly for this.

Algae and mould in shaded, humid corners

This is the one Singapore-specific watch-point. In deep shade with poor airflow, humidity can let a green algae film form. Rinse those corners occasionally, keep them clear of damp leaf litter, and treat any film with diluted white vinegar. Good drainage under the turf is the real prevention, standing water is what algae needs.

Let the rain do the heavy lifting; a broom, a hose and the occasional vinegar rinse handle the rest.

What never to do

Skip pressure washers on full power (they can dislodge infill), metal rakes, bleach and strong solvents. None are necessary, and all can shorten the life of the pile.

FAQ

How often should I clean artificial grass in Singapore?
For most homes a light brush and the occasional rinse is enough, and frequent rain does much of it for you. Shaded, humid corners and pet areas benefit from a more regular rinse.
Does rain keep artificial grass clean?
Largely, yes. Singapore’s regular downpours rinse dust and pollen from the pile several times a week, which is why artificial grass here needs so little manual cleaning.
How do I stop algae or mould on artificial grass?
Ensure good drainage under the turf, keep shaded corners clear of damp leaves, rinse them occasionally, and treat any green film with diluted white vinegar. Standing water is the main cause.
Is artificial grass hygienic for pets?
Yes. Solids lift off and urine drains through a proper base, so odour is minimal. An occasional rinse or a water-and-vinegar spritz keeps pet areas fresh.
