A heritage bungalow lawn, rebuilt in green.

A grand colonial bungalow on Peirce Drive had the architecture, but its 603 sqm of grounds — front lawn, entrance forecourt and a long side walkway — had thinned to patchy, muddy grass under mature shade trees. Over one week in July 2017 we stripped it back to bare earth, engineered a free-draining base, and laid a seamless carpet of premium Namgrass. This is the whole build, start to finish.

The result

A flawless emerald lawn, wall to wall.

Seven years on, the same lawn still reads as one uninterrupted sweep of green — framing the white heritage façade exactly as intended.

The brief

Great house, tired grounds.

Mature rain trees kept the front lawn in near-permanent shade, so natural turf never took — leaving thin grass, exposed soil and mossy pavers right at the entrance to a landmark home.

The owners wanted a lawn that stayed showpiece-green all year, drained instantly in a downpour, and needed no mowing or watering under the trees — without losing the soft, natural look a heritage bungalow deserves.

  • 603 sqm across three zones — front lawn, entrance forecourt and side walkway.
  • Full drainage-cell base so monsoon rain clears in seconds.
  • UV-stable premium Namgrass that holds colour in sun and shade.
  • Neatly cut around trees, steps and kerbs for a seamless finish.

The whole construction, phase by phase.

One week from a shaded, patchy lawn to a finished green garden — here is every stage of the work.

01

Stripping out the old lawn

We cleared the thin natural grass, lifted the mossy stepping pavers and cut back overgrowth along the boundary — taking the front lawn and side path back to bare, workable ground.

02

Clearing the site

Green waste and old material were loaded out by crane-truck and skid-steer at the gate, keeping the grounds clean and the heritage forecourt protected throughout the works.

03

Laying the drainage-cell base

Across the entrance forecourt and lawn we laid interlocking drainage cells over the concrete and soil. This raised, free-draining platform is what lets a downpour vanish in seconds and stops water ever pooling under the turf — essential on a shaded site.

Laying the turf

Premium Namgrass was rolled out over the base, tensioned and joined with invisible seams, then hand-cut around every tree trunk, kerb and the curved entrance steps. The transformation from bare ground to lawn happened in a single day.

The finished garden

The completed 603 sqm lawn wraps the whole frontage in seamless green, flowing around the fairy-lit trees and up to the white columned entrance — soft underfoot, sharp to look at, and effectively maintenance-free.

Seven years on

Still showpiece-green in 2024.

We returned in August 2024 to service the lawn and its garden lighting. After seven years under heavy shade and tropical rain, the turf was still even, upright and vivid — no mud, no bald patches, no fading.

That longevity is the whole point of a properly engineered base and a premium yarn: a heritage garden that looks freshly laid, year after year, with none of the upkeep of living grass.
