On a balcony we lay the grass over interlocking drainage cells, not glued down to the slab. Water runs straight through the cells to the balcony drain, so the surface never pools. And because the grass and cells simply lift up, you can pull them back, hose down the slab, clear any debris and drop everything back into place, keeping the balcony fresh and odour-free for years.
